Signs your pup had a safe, happy experience away from home
Leaving your dog overnight—especially for the first time—can be stressful. Even after a smooth drop-off, many pet owners wonder:
“Did my dog enjoy their stay?”
“Was it a good experience?”
At Chrysidis Pet Care in Gateshead, I’ve welcomed hundreds of dogs into my calm, home-based environment over the years. Here are the most common signs that your dog enjoyed their stay—and why that matters for their next one.
1. They Seem Calm and Relaxed at Pickup
Happy dogs don’t rush to escape. If your dog greets you warmly, then calmly sniffs around or interacts with me after, it’s a great sign they felt safe and stress-free during their visit.
2. They Eat, Sleep, and Settle Normally at Home
If your dog comes home, eats normally, and settles into their routine, it means their mental and physical needs were met while you were away.
3. They Show Affection Toward the Sitter
Dogs remember people they trust. If your dog wags, approaches, or gives kisses to me at pickup, it’s a clear signal they were comfortable.
4. They Don’t Show Signs of Stress
Look for:
No excessive panting or pacing No clinginess or anxious behavior No sudden digestive upset
These are signs that their stay was low-stress and well-managed.
5. They’re Excited for the Next Visit
Often the clearest sign! Many of my regular clients’ dogs wag, pull on the lead, or head straight for my door because they associate my home with attention, play, and rest—not fear.
