What to do when your pup has digestive trouble
Dogs, like people, can have the occasional off day. Maybe they ate something they shouldn’t have, or they’re experiencing stress, diet changes, or sensitivity to rich foods.
At Chrysidis Pet Care, I provide gentle, routine-based care—perfect for dogs with sensitive stomachs. Here’s what to look for and how to help if your dog has an upset stomach.
🐾 Signs of an Upset Stomach
Vomiting Diarrhoea Licking lips or swallowing repeatedly Eating grass Gurgling tummy sounds Lethargy or restlessness Lack of appetite
These symptoms may be mild—but if they persist for more than 24 hours, or include blood, call your vet immediately.
✅ What to Do at Home
1. Withhold Food Temporarily
Give your dog’s tummy a break by skipping food for 12–24 hours (but always provide fresh water).
2. Offer a Bland Diet
Reintroduce food with simple, easily digestible meals:
Boiled chicken (no skin or seasoning) Plain white rice Small portions, 2–3 times a day
Continue this for 2–3 days before slowly transitioning back to their regular diet.
3. Avoid Rich Foods or Treats
Skip table scraps, treats, and new foods while your dog is recovering.
4. Keep Them Calm and Comfortable
Rest helps recovery. Avoid long walks or play until they’re back to normal.
🩺 When to Call the Vet
Seek veterinary advice if your dog:
Vomits repeatedly or shows blood Has diarrhea for over 48 hours Refuses food for more than a day Becomes very lethargic or shows signs of pain Has a known history of digestive issues
