A step-by-step guide for a calm, confident first visit
Booking a pet sitter for the first time can be a big step—for both you and your dog. Whether your pup is shy, energetic, or a rescue, helping them adjust to a new person is key to a safe, relaxed stay.
At Chrysidis Pet Care in Gateshead, I welcome dogs into my home with patience, routine, and personal attention. Here’s how to introduce your dog to a new sitter and set them up for a positive experience.
1. Schedule a Trial Visit
A short stay—just an hour or half-day—helps your dog get used to the new space, sights, and smells. It also builds trust between your dog and me before a full boarding or day care stay.
2. Bring Familiar Comforts
Pack items that remind your dog of home, like:
A blanket or bed A favourite toy An item with your scent (like an old t-shirt)
These can reduce anxiety and help your dog settle more quickly.
3. Share Their Routine in Detail
The more I know, the better. Please share:
Feeding times and dietary notes Walk routines Nap habits and sleep preferences Medical needs or anxiety triggers
I follow your dog’s routine closely to make their stay feel familiar and safe.
4. Stay Calm at Drop-Off
Dogs mirror your energy. A confident, calm goodbye tells them everything’s okay. Keep it short and positive—even if you’re nervous.
5. Stay in Touch (If You Need To)
You’re welcome to check in! I’m always happy to update you on how your dog’s doing, especially during their first visit.
